There are many ways to relieve hunger for the needy and the members of Lions Club of Wattala Classic District 306B1 and Lions Club of Epping Eastwood District 201 N5 Australia thought donations would help the needy, but will not relieve their hunger permanently. Thus, 25 ladies with sewing knowledge were selected from the war affected families / lost their bread winner due to natural causes for this special purpose. They were donated one sewing machine each to relieve hunger of those 25 families (100 family members). In addition this project will help to educate their children.

A sewing unit containing sewing machine, cutting table and sewing accessories was also donated to Tellippalai Base Hospital. The Medical Superintend of this hospital requested a sewing unit to stitch the uniforms for their operation theatre staff, bed sheet, pillow case, and partition certain between two beds etc.

Social Welfare Organisation (SWO) is a registered charity organization located in Puthukuddiyiruppu, Batticaloa (Eastern Province of Sri Lanka). They are running a girls home and a technical study center. SWO is conducting Government approved NVQ certification course for sewing, offering sewing skills to the girls from SWO’s Girls Home and girls from low‐income families from the neighborhood.  This course is offered at no cost to students and on completion, the SWO helps to find a suitable employment for living.

February 2015 there were 10 girls completed the NVQ sewing course. The first three students who passed the examination received donated Sewing Machines and accessories. This project is another joint project of Lions Club of Wattala Classic and Lions Club of Epping Eastwood. This function was held on 2nd August 2015 in Batticaloa.

With these three projects we have handed over 29 machines and planning to give 10 more machines within one month time under the category of Self- Employment project.
